Levels of care

Care for an eating disorder comes in steps. Fallow offers the first. If you need another, we say so and help you reach it.

  1. Here

    Step 1: Outpatient

Sessions at an office or by video, between which you live your life. This is Fallow.

    • Therapy with Regina

    • Nutrition counseling with Eugene

  2. We refer

    Step 2: Intensive outpatient

Several hours of group and individual care, several days a week, at a program.

  3. We refer

    Step 3: Partial hospitalization

A full day of care at a program, then home to sleep.

  4. We refer

    Step 4: Residential treatment

Living at a program, with meals and care around the clock.

  5. Your doctor decides

    Step 5: Inpatient hospital care

Medical stabilization in a hospital when your body needs it.

Signs to talk about

When to talk about a different level

No one sign decides it. If any of these is true, say so at your next session, or call us before then.

  • Eating or drinking has become very hard to keep up

  • Your doctor is worried about your body

  • You have slipped back and weekly sessions are not holding

  • You are afraid of what you might do

How we refer you

  • 01

We talk it through with you

Regina and Eugene explain what they see and why, and listen to what you want.

  • 02

    We speak to your doctor

With your written permission, we share what your doctor needs to decide on a higher level.

  • 03

We help you reach a program

We give you names of programs in Georgia and beyond, and we stay in touch while you wait for a place.

Questions about higher levels of care

Does needing more mean I have failed?

No. A different level is a different tool. Many people move between levels more than once.

Will I come back to Fallow afterward?

If you want to, and if we have a place. We can see you again once you step down.

Who decides?

You do, with your team and your doctor. Where your body is in danger, your doctor's judgment comes first.
